Up until about five years ago or so, my skincare routine was basically nonexistent. I would wash my face, put on a prescription acne cream from my dermatologist, and then start my makeup – that was it. It was definitely quicker than my current routine, but it wasn’t great for my skin. The prescription cream kept the big breakouts at bay, but I’d still get smaller breakouts, and the texture of my skin overall was just not great.
The beginnings of my routine started when I read about how important it was to wear sunscreen on your face every single day. So that meant I had to find a moisturizer with sunscreen. From there, I learned about toners and exfoliants… and things just snowballed.
Recently, Sephora revamped their Beauty Insider program, and introduced a way to redeem points for a Sephora gift card. I rarely redeem my points for the sample-sized products, so I had a decent stockpile, and was quick enough to be able to cash in my points for gift cards. I knew immediately that I wanted to use them to buy some Drunk Elephant products. I’ve been wanting to try out Drunk Elephant for a while now. I love the philosophy behind their products – they are careful to exclude a lot of harmful ingredients, like alcohol and fragrance, and focus on making products that are actually effective. And you can tell!
I have been using three of their products for a few weeks now – I wanted to make sure that I let enough time pass before I wrote about them. I’m currently using the T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, the C-Firma Day Serum, and the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum.
The T.L.C. Night Serum is an exfoliant, but it’s interesting in that it’s a mix of BHAs and AHAs. In general, BHAs go deeper into the skin and exfoliate under the surface, while AHAs exfoliate the top layer of your skin. I’ve used BHAs for a while now, but I’ve been wanting to add an AHA, too, and I love this mix. One pump is enough for your whole face, and it feels really nice on your skin. If you’re not used to exfoliants, you’re recommended to start by using this every few nights, but I’ve been using it nightly with no problems at all.
Technically, the B-Hydra Serum isn’t a moisturizer, but since I have super oily skin, it’s enough moisture for me. I use it at night after the T.L.C., just to make sure the exfoliant doesn’t end up drying out my skin. It’s an incredibly lightweight texture, and it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy at all.
The C-Firma Day Serum is a Vitamin C serum, which is supposed to have lots of benefits for your skin. For me, I was most excited for its benefits in helping lighten dark spots on the skin – like the kind that get leftover after acne scars. The texture of this one is a little tricky for me – it doesn’t feel like it ever fully dries down, but when I layer my moisturizer/sunscreen on top of it, I don’t have to worry about that. I do think it’s helping to fade my dark spots, though, and it also just makes my skin look good – kind of glowy, but not greasy.
I will definitely be repurchasing these when I run out. I know they’re pricey, but I love how they feel on my skin and how well they work! I think it’s really important to focus on skincare – it’s so cliche, but I do think I look and feel better when I’m taking care of my skin.
