I feels like there have been so, so many holiday movies and specials put out this year! While I have a few classics that I watch every year, I’ve been checking out some of the new options, too – honestly, I’m kind of at the point where I’m out of TV options and willing to watch almost anything! I thought that I’d share a few of the ones that I’ve watched in case you’re looking for some holiday cheer in your life, too.
Dash & Lily (Netflix)
This is actually a series, not a movie or special, but it’s still relatively short and all set around Christmas and New Years. It’s really cute – it’s about two high schoolers who “meet” by writing letters to each other. I thought that it was going to be too cheesy for me, but honestly, I loved it.
Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special (Apple TV+)
Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” is probably my favorite Christmas song, so this was a no-brainer for me. She truly has an incredible voice, and she sang a variety of different Christmas tunes. It was a little bit of a cheesy special, but in the best way. Plus Billy Eichner is in it, too! Definitely worth a watch.
Happiest Season (Hulu)
I was really excited about this movie because it was both filmed in and set in Pittsburgh. It was… not my favorite, plot-wise, because I didn’t love relationship that you’re supposed to root for! I did love all the Pittsburgh references, though, and I’m all for holiday movies with more LGBTQ+ representation.
The Disney Holiday Sing-Along (Disney+)
I am always up for a Disney sing-along! They remind me of the Disney/ABC growing up, when they’d have a movie on Sunday night. This isn’t anything deep; just a fun hour-ish of sing-along holiday cheer.
Christmas Ever After (Lifetime)
A holiday movie with a disabled character where the plot isn’t just about her “overcoming” her disability and realizing she’s worthy of love?! Yes, please! I would watch Ali Stroker in all the movies. This is a Lifetime movie in all ways, shapes, and forms, but I’m so happy that it was made.
12 Dates of Christmas
I cannot resist a dating reality show, and this one is set in a castle, so of course I had to watch it. It is Bachelor/Bachelorette-esque, except there are multiple leads all at the same time and new contestants for the leads to go on dates with keep coming in throughout the series. And of course, it takes place around Christmas and New Years. It’s light and fluffy fun!
What are you watching? Let me know!
