I really do love that smocked dresses are everywhere now – they’re probably my favorite style. They’re comfortable, easy-to-wear, and (in my opinion) universally flattering. So when I saw this smocked jersey dress on J.Crew’s site, I knew that I had to add it to my collection.

I think that this might be the perfect spring dress. It has so many things going for it – the smocked top, the sleeves, and the babydoll silhouette. It’s super easy to wear – one of those dresses that you can just throw on and go without needing to worry about it being wrinkled, or tugging awkwardly, or needed to constantly be readjusted.
And the fabric! Honestly, the minute I saw it described as “broken-in jersey,” I was sold. I love a fabric that’s comfortable and that feels like an old favorite, even when it’s fresh out of the packaging. It’s just super, super comfortable. And it’s thicker than I thought it would be, too – not too thick or heavy, but just substantial enough that it doesn’t feel flimsy and thin.
The babydoll style is one of my favorites, and I’m so glad to see it coming back around. It’s especially great for me because it looks really nice when sitting – everything lays and flows just right. Even though this fabric doesn’t technically have stretch to it, because of the style of the dress, it lays like it does, which is what matters most to me.
I went with the classic black dress, but it also comes in a spring-y yellow and a very pretty blue that I’m also very tempted by. It’s just a great, simple dress that I know I’ll be wearing a lot!
