Life Lately, February 2024

Well! This month didn’t exactly turn out quite as I expected – if you’ve read any of my other recent posts, you know that I spent a little under a week in the hospital earlier this month. So this month’s Life Lately is a little bit different than usual, but I always want to make sure to share the bad with the good, and to keep this real. So here’s what my life looked like over the last month.

This was the first of a few snow days we’ve had over the last month! Honestly, I’m kind of over it, and ready for spring to officially be here… but it does, at least, look very pretty on the trees and bushes in my backyard. I took this picture and then bolted back inside where it’s warm and cozy!

I had been waiting for two years for House of Flame and Shadow to come out, and my excitement level was HIGH for this book! I actually already started not feeling great the night before this was released (I just didn’t realize my body was sending me a sign!), so I was excited to be able to lift my spirits by reading this. I absolutely flew through it, reading every spare second that I had during the day. Now I just start counting down until the next ACOTAR book comes out!

Again, my body was sending me a sign here… I only made it through Act I of My Fair Lady and had to head home at intermission because I started feeling sick again. But the part of the show that I did see was fantastic! I’ve only ever seen the live version of this show, just the movie, so I hope that it comes back again one day so I can see the full show.

This picture just makes me laugh. Once I was finally able to get out of bed and back into my wheelchair at the hospital, one of the first things I asked them was: “Am I allowed to have coffee?” I only had a little bit, but it was perfect – just the splash of normalcy that I needed amidst all the chaos of what had been going on around me.

I did make it home from the hospital before Valentine’s Day, and decided to treat myself with some goodies from my favorite local French bakery. I got a selection of their macarons, plus an Earl Grey + lemon pastry that ended up being absolutely delicious. It was a really nice little present to myself after the prior week.

And since coming home, my life has looked a lot like Nala here in my off-hours! Lots of lounging under blankets, trying to make sure I get rest and don’t push myself too hard too quickly. Last week by Friday, everything kind of caught up with me, and the exhaustion hit hard. So I’m being extra cautious about continuing to rest!
