Life Lately, April 2024

This past month has been really nice – not necessarily anything huge or out of the ordinary, but just nice. I felt pretty content, even when things were a little bit stressful. I think a lot of it is because the weather is finally nicer, and I’m just a happier person when it’s warm and sunny. So here’s what my life has looked like over the last month.

Easter this year was low-key – just me, my sister, and my parents at home – but I still wanted to put on a springy dress to get me in the spirit. It was really nice to have a relaxed dinner at home and just have a more relaxed holiday in general, too.

I bought this tablecloth for the Galentine’s Day dinner I was planning to host before the hospital thwarted my plans, so I was happy to have the chance to use it at Easter instead. It’s so fun – slightly whimsical but extremely appropriate for spring – and it makes me happy every time I see it!

The final book in Chloe Liese’s Bergman Brothers series was released in the beginning of April! I’m a huge fan of the books, and of how Chloe really cares about making sure everyone is seen in romance, and gives her disabled main characters their happy ever afters. She had a book launch and signing at The White Whale bookstore the day the final book was released, and I was so happy to be able to be there! I was also super impressed by this little Lego version of the infamous A-frame. I’m sad that the book is closed on the Bergmans (for now), but it was a perfect ending to their story.

The eclipse!! We weren’t in the path of full totality – we were in the upper 90 percent – but it was still very, very cool. Space honestly kind of overwhelms and scares me, so I wasn’t sure how into it I was going to be, but I loved it. I actually asked my boss if it would be ok to move a meeting so that I could be sure to be outside during the height of it. Watching the sliver of sun slowly get smaller and smaller was so cool, and it got dark enough that the lamp in our yard turned on automatically. I’m so glad I got to experience it. And of course, I had to wear my “Space Floral” Nap Dress so that I was on theme!

We’ve had a stretch of really nice days, and I have been doing my best to really take advantage of them and spend as much time on the patio as possible! the first sign was these beautiful blooms popping up, letting me know that spring was on its way. I loved how vibrant and bright they were (sadly, they’re gone now). I’ve been taking my laptop and my iPad outside a bunch, to work, or read, or a little bit of both! It’s just such a calm, relaxing vibe and makes me feel so peaceful. And of course – it’s even better when the deer stop by to say hello! They were napping for a few hours on this day, and it was extremely cute.

I’ve also been perfecting the vibes inside, too! Hotel Lobby generously sent me their signature candle, and I love how luxe it makes my space smell and feel. This whole little corner makes me so happy every time I look at it.

My personal care attendant (PCA) has had to call out a few times over the last month with some health-related issues of her own. Obviously, she should take the time off that she needs, but it does make things a little more stressful at home when it’s just my parents helping out me and my sister. When that happens, I am very grateful I have Drybar to fall back on for washing and styling my hair! It’s just one less thing I have to worry about at home, which is really nice.

Finally! I’ve been listening to Taylor Swift’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, since it came out on Friday. I was at the mall on Friday to upgrade my phone, so I decided to stop by Barnes & Noble and be a tortured poet myself.
