Dr. Jart Cicapair Review

I don’t know if I technically have rosacea, but I definitely have underlying redness in my skin. So while I’ve definitely adopted a “less is more” approach to my everyday makeup look, if I try to go foundation-free, my face looks pretty flushed by the end of the day no matter what I do. I’m always looking for easy products that don’t feel like a full face of makeup but still help tone down the inevitable redness – and I’ve found a new favorite in the Dr. Jart Cicapair Cream.

I’d heard about the Cicapair cream for a few years now, but for some reason, never got around to actually trying it. I think I was a little suspicious of the claims to neutralize redness, because I know that there are a limited number of ingredients that actually have an impact on redness. But what I didn’t understand was that it neutralizes the redness based on color theory! The cream is slightly green tinted – though it turns beige once you rub it in on your skin – and it’s this green tint that helps to temporarily neutralize the redness in your skin.

The product is super easy to apply, which I love. I put it on as the final step in my morning skincare routine, after my sunscreen is already on. It comes in a tub, so I just scoop out a little bit, dab it all over my face, and then rub in. A note of warning! When you first apply it, before it’s really had to chance to change from green to beige, your skin might look a little bit deathly pale. But don’t worry! It will settle in to a much more normal, skin-like color (though I don’t think this would work well for darker skin shades).

The Cicapair cream has other really great ingredients, too. Centella Asiatica, or Tiger Grass, is great for soothing and calming the skin, which is perfect when you’re already prone to redness. And the cream also has mineral sunscreen! I wouldn’t rely on this alone for sun protection – you’d need to put way too much on to get the necessary coverage – but it’s a really nice bonus layer. It does have some moisturizing properties, too. I don’t find that I need another layer or moisture under it, but if your skin is on the drier side, you might need to layer.

All in all, I really love this product. If you, like me, are looking for an easy no-makeup makeup product that just evens out your skin and reduces redness, the Dr. Jart Cicapair Cream is a great option.
