I love testing out new hair care products – I’m always searching for the new best product that will transform my hair! When I saw that Blake Lively came out with her Blake Brown Beauty line, I knew that I wanted to try it out. I’ve been using it for a little over a month now, so I thought I’d share my thoughts on the products. Overall, I’m definitely a fan of the line – with a few caveats!
First, a little bit of backgrounds on the products themselves. I bought both shampoos and conditioners (Fundamental Nourishing Shampoo and Mask and Fundamental Strengthening Shampoo and Mask) and the All-in-Wonder Leave-In Potion. There are a few more products that I didn’t buy because they’re not normal parts of my hair care routine! You’re told that you should alternate using the Nourishing and Strengthening lines each time you wash, and that masks are the replacement for conditioner now. In my opinion, stressing the mask vs. conditioner is a stretch! You can always leave conditioner on extra long as a mask, and these aren’t super heavy or moisturizing. So I treat it as a normal conditioner – sometimes I leave it on for a few minutes, sometimes I wash it right off. I haven’t really noticed a difference!
The other big hyped up part of the Blake Brown products is the smell – and here, they totally live up to the hype for me. They smell absolutely amazing, and they leave my hair smelling amazing afterwards, too. It’s not overwhelming – it never clashes with my perfume – but just leaves a nice, soft fragrance on my hair. I honestly love it.
The shampoos lather nicely, but rinse out really easily – sometimes I’ll do a quick double shampoo, and I’ll get that “squeaky clean” hair feeling. And the mask is thick, but actually rinses out really easily, too – it’s not so thick that it sticks to your hair or is difficult to rinse off. And when I use it, my hair is so soft and smooth afterward. It feels and smells so nice! I love it.
And the All-In-Wonder Leave-in Potion is kind of a miracle product for me. I spray it on my hair from about halfway down to the end while it’s still wet, and then blow dry and style normally. But it makes styling and drying SO much easier. Since I can’t really do anything with a blow dryer other than rough dry my own hair (I can’t reach), it typically gets pretty tangled after it’s been dried. This spray has cut out probably 90% of the knots! It also has let me air dry way more and only blow dry for about 5-7 minutes and still have really smooth, sleek hair. I’ve already influenced a few friends to give this a try, it’s that good.
Now, for the caveat… I think the packaging is pretty bad. It’s not user friendly at all! The shampoo bottle has to be completely turned upside down to dispense any product, which can be tricky when your hands are wet from the shower and you need just a little more. And the lid of the mask is also tricky to open with wet hands, not to mention that the product needs to be scooped out – which is fine when it’s full, but is going to be more difficult when more is used up and you have to get down into the odd shaped corners of the bottle. Since I’m not washing my own hair, it’s not a deal breaker for me, but it’s definitely something to be aware of!
For me, the pros outweigh the cons, and I’m going to keep using the products – especially the leave-in! But I do hope we see a more accessible and usable redesign of the products soon.
