We are solidly in fall now – there’s a slight chill in the air, the temperatures are dropping, and the leaves are changing. Halloween is just around the corner! It’s time to dress for a new season again. I’m still very much a dress person, but definitely not reaching for my little sundresses anymore. Today I’m rounding up some dresses for fall and beyond.

For fall, there are a few things I look for in dresses. I want something that adds some warmth, but isn’t too heavy, and I especially love if it’s layerable. This toile print midi dress is great for that – the midi length adds some warmth, but the shorter sleeves work for daytime, but you can throw on a jacket or sweater for the evening. A Nap Dress is another great option, because it looks great under a jean jacket, and this maroon / burgundy color one is so in for fall this year. This chain-print dress is so chic, and the sleeves add some warmth, but the above-the-knee length keeps it fall-appropriate. And I really love this “twofer” style dress – the colors are so perfect for fall and really look like the colors of the changing leaves!

I also love a good sweaterdress, but the key for fall is to get something that’s not too thick and heavy. I have this gray polo-style lightweight sweaterdress, and it’s the perfect weight for fall, plus it’s so unbelievably soft. This navy mockneck is another great option; it’s still not too heavy and is above-the-knee too. I love the contrast trim and collar of this polo-style dress, and the jewel buttons are the perfect extra detail. This cable-knit open collar dress is probably the heaviest of the options, but short enough that it’s still wearable for fall… and would be so cute with tights when the temperatures drop even more.
