An Unexpected Start

Sometimes, there’s nothing you can do but laugh. I talked so much about how I was looking forward to resting and relaxing over my holiday break… and woke up on December 26 with Covid. I’m doing okay now, but needless to say, the break did not quite go as I hoped it would! When I said that I wanted to rest, I didn’t mean forced rest while I was feverish and had no energy. I was looking forward to the relaxing, days stretching out with a book and a movie and it just didn’t happen.

Honestly, it was a little bit of a bummer. I like when things follow my plans in the best of circumstances, and I had really felt like I was at the edge of burnout and needed a break to be able to jump back in refreshed in 2025. I got rest, but don’t exactly feel refreshed. I feel like the break completely flew by, and was was actually pretty stressful. Without sharing too much of stories that aren’t mine to share, my sister is still struggling with Covid, and it continues to be stressful. There’s a lot going on right now, and none of it is how I expected 2024 to end and 2025 to begin.

But as I keep reminding myself, it is what it is. I can’t go back and change what happened! I can be a little frustrated about it for sure, but ultimately, the only thing I can do is keep moving forward, minute by hour by day at a time. But I’m going to take it slowly, and ease myself into it. I’m not feeling quite ready to pick my 2025 goals or my word of the year yet, so I’m going to give myself some time. I still kind of feel like I’m stuck back in 2024, to be honest! I need a little more time to mentally reset and move on to the new year.

It’s hard to move on when you’re still in the thick of things. I know that the days on the calendar are moving forward, and I’m doing what I can to mentally move along with them, but mentally I’m not really there yet. I’m definitely in survival mode, doing my best to just do what needs to be done every day and not worry about the rest. I do that that my disability has really helped me to be resilient, and to be able to keep moving in moments like these, but it’s not always easy – it’s still something I have to work at! So that’s what I’m doing right now.

I’ll be sharing some December and overall 2024 wrap up posts this week, and the rest of the posts for the New Year will come a little bit later, when I can actually comprehend that 2025 is here.
