Friday Favorites

Today is Rare Disease Day, which I “celebrate” because Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare disease! I wrote all about SMA in my Substack last week – some (very!) basic medical information about SMA, plus the ways it does (and doesn’t) affect my life. It’s so funny sometimes to think about SMA being rare. For years growing up, the only people I knew with SMA were my sister and one other person. But with social media, I’ve found so many other people to talk with, and that online community has been so, so important to me. It’s one of the very best things to have come out of having a presence online, and I’m so grateful for it on Rare Disease Day and every day!

On to this week’s favorites.

What Really Happens to Your Used Clothing?

This article is sobering – it really goes through all of the ways that used clothing can end up as waste. It’s a reminder to me of the importance of shopping thoughtfully – of buying less but higher quality, or buying secondhand, or not falling for the FOMO of a trend that isn’t really my style. It can be hard sometimes!

With the measles outbreak going on in Texas right now, it’s a good reminder to check if you’re due for a measles booster. This article explains who is most likely still fully vaccinated, and who might only have partial protection right now.

Hill House Sale at Shopbop

A few Hill House pieces are on sale at Shopbop right now! Some of them are final sale, so make sure to check that (or make sure you know your size!) before you check out, but the deals are pretty great. This black lace mini is a classic style, and is under $100. This floral mini is just barely under $100, too. The fabric of this brown Ellie is so soft, and I love the stitching on the smocking of this maroon one, too.

Mike White Profile

The White Lotus is one of my must-watch shows – the seasons are always set somewhere so incredibly gorgeous, and the beauty of the setting is perfectly juxtaposed with the ugly actions of the people at the resort. This is an in-depth and super fascinating profile with the showrunner, Mike White – it’s a must-read.
