Dermaflash Luxe+ Dermaplaner Review

I’ve really been focusing on my skincare in the last few years. Going to get facials done is a challenge for me, and Botox is out (injecting a neurotoxin into your face when you have a neuromuscular disease is a no no), so I really like to do the most that I can at home to take care of my skin and keep it looking its best. I’ve wanted to try dermaplaning at home for a while, but I was nervous! While I still have pretty good mobility in my hands, being able to reach my face while shaving it with a small, sharp blade made me a little bit antsy.

But then I saw the Dermaflash Luxe+ while I was browsing Sephora online one day, and I was intrigued. It seemed like an electric razor version of a dermaplaner, with more built-in safety, plus the bonus of sonic exfoliation. That seemed like something I could handle! So I bought it and have been using it for a few months now, and I can’t believe I waited so long to try it. My skin feels so smooth and soft, and it looks so glowy – it’s been transformed.

So, starting off by explaining what the Dermaflash Luxe+ is. It’s a dermaplaner, but it’s one that also incorporates sonic technology to help aid in exfoliation. Unlike a traditional dermaplaning razor, you turn this one on before you use it, and the dermaplaner gently vibrates. The blades – microfine edges, as they call them – are specifically designed to not cut or nick the skin as easily as a typical dermaplaning razor does, and they really do work that way. The sonic exfoliation plus the dermaplaning combined get rid of dead skin cells and peach fuzz on your face to leave you with incredibly smooth skin.

It’s super easy to use, too. You start by washing your face with the face wash they include – it’s slightly more stripping than a typical face wash, so it helps the dermaplaning work as effectively as possible. Once your face is cleansed, you slide one of the single-use blades on, turn on the device (you can choose between two speeds), and go! It works best if you use small, short strokes in the same direction that the hair grows, and hold the device at a 45 degree angle. Theoretically, you should also hold the skin taut as you do this, but I’m not able to, and I don’t find that it makes it work any less well. I’m just extra careful and slow with my strokes to make sure the blades don’t get caught! I’m always able to tell if I have the angle right or not, just from how it feels as I’m going across my face. It took me a few tries to get it right the first time, but once I got it, I could instantly tell the difference. Plus, I could see the baby hairs and the dead skin buildup on the edge of the device. Typically, it takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to completely dermaplane my face.

One thing I really, really love about the Dermaflash is how easy it is to hold. It’s got a nice, rubbery texture and is designed in a way that just easily fits in your hand. It made me feel so much more comfortable and confident! Sometimes I have to find just the right angle to be able to hold and use something, but with the Dermaflash it just… worked. I was able to hold it easily and get all the angles I needed to so that I could shave everywhere I wanted, and it’s not too heavy for me to hold.

They recommend using the Dermaflash once a week, and that feels right to me. I think that with a more traditional razor used for dermaplaning, you get a slightly closer shave and it lasts a bit longer. But for me, this is definitely worth the tradeoff! It hasn’t irritated my sensitive skin at all, and I really can still feel the difference in my skin from before I started using it.

I think the biggest difference I feel is when I’m applying my skincare and my foundation. The skincare – serums and moisturizers especially – just soak in much easier. And my foundation goes on so much more smoothly, especially on the outer sides of my cheeks! I had some peach fuzz there where the foundation could cling to and get patchy, but now it just glides on. Overall, even without makeup, I feel like my skin looks brighter and more glowy. With the baby hairs and dead skin gone, it’s like the dull layer on top of my skin is just… gone. I look so much clearer and brighter. I’ll definitely keep the Dermaflash Luxe+ as part of my weekly routine.
