The timing of this week has felt so off – we had some absolutely gorgeous days, which I loved, but I also had some days that just felt like they dragged on and on. Not much else to share from this week, though – I am very much ready for the weekend, and for summer to be here permanently. I’m looking forward to both pretty much equally!
On to this week’s favorites.

Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry
Emily Henry’s newest book, Great Big Beautiful Life, came out this week! I was lucky enough to get an ALC from Libro.fm and read it via audiobook earlier this month, and I really loved it. It’s a bit more of a mix between contemporary fiction and romance than her previous books, but I still really loved it. I can’t wait to be able to talk about it with more people! I snagged one of the personalized copies during a preorder campaign she did, and I’m so excited to add it to my collection.
‘This Is Not How We Do Science, Ever’ (gift article from The Atlantic)
This week’s articles are not going to be upbeat or feel-good, but I do think that they’re important to share. I’ve worked in research for almost 15 years now, and I have a Masters of Public Health – all of this is not to brag, but is to explain that I have a pretty good understanding of how research works, across many levels and topics. And I fully agree with the alarm bells that this article is sharing – that you cannot do good, solid, evidence-based research the way that the current administration is describing it.
Buckle Sandals
I love when accidentally adaptive styles are in! I keep seeing more and more sandals popping up that are adjustable and adaptive in one way or another. This pair of double-strap sandals have buckles on both straps, which means you can open them up completely, set your foot on the sole, and buckle the straps back up again. It’s so much easier than having someone else try to slide your foot into a sticky shoe in the hot summer weather!
What It’s Like to Be a Vaccine Researcher in RFK Jr.’s America
Vaccines are so, so important, and it’s so terrifying to see scientists worry about the future of vaccine research. It’s so hard to convince people of the importance of something like vaccines, because you don’t fully appreciate how important they are until it’s way, way too late. But I think it’s important to read about how the research community is feeling right now – there’s so much fear and dread and worry all the time! This article gives a look into how one researcher is feeling – and trying to cope – right now.
