I always feel like I have to start posts about shoes with a disclaimer! You may think that being in a wheelchair means I have no issues finding shoes – who has to worry about comfort when you don’t stand or walk in your shoes? But actually, that’s not the case! My feet swell really easily because they have bad circulation, they’re really small and finding my size is hard, my ankles are too weak for heels, and things are just tricky in general when someone else has to maneuver your foot inside a shoe! So I actually have quite a tough time finding shoes that fit, are easy to get on, and are comfortable. When I find a brand that works for me, I won’t shut up about it! And Margaux does work for me – so, so well.

Margaux is a small, women-owned business that’s really focused on the fit of the shoe, which is what I love so much about them. Before I ordered my pair, I actually used their chat function to talk through sizing with what they call their “fit concierge.” It was so helpful to talk through the process of what seemed like it would fit best, because they have so many options! They start around a US 3.5 and go up to a US 14, which is so much wider of a size range than most shoe brands.

I went with the Demi flat – I wanted a classic style that would work with lots of outfits, and that I wouldn’t have to worry might not work with my foot shape! I got them in size 3.5, which I’d never tried before, because it was never an option… but I took the recommendation from their fit concierge, who assured me I could exchange them for free if they ended up not fitting. Happily, though, that wasn’t something I had to worry about, because they fit perfectly.

This is going to sound dramatic, but the Margaux flats are honestly the most comfortable shoes that I’ve ever worn. The leather is soft and flexible, so it felt like it kind of formed around my foot, which is ideal for me! There’s enough structure that it held my foot in place, too. They have 5 mm of foam padding described as plush, and I can feel that even though I’m not stepping on them – it just feels so nice and cloud-like! And the little bow detail is actually an adjustable tie, so you have added sizing flexibility there, too. And my feet kind of slide right in, which doesn’t happen with most shoes! Probably the least amount of wiggling back-and-forth by whoever is helping me put them on.

And I love that Margaux works with a family-owned factory in Spain to manufacture their shoes, too. More and more now I try to spend my money on ethical, sustainable brands where I can, and Margaux definitely checks that box.

I’m so excited to have found Margaux and have a new brand of shoes to shop from – I’m definitely looking forward to adding more to my collection.
