For years, I was someone who always had my nails done. Every Sunday, I’d go through the ritual of removing, filing, and re-painting my own nails. I love the look of a fresh manicure, and it always made me feel so nice and put together. Once I started working from home it became less of a priority, though, and as I’ve struggled with energy levels that go up and down, it felt less and less like something I could spend my valuable energy on. But I missed the look of a fresh mani, and I really missed how it made me feel!
A few weeks ago, a friend sent me a picture of something, and I commented on her nail polish. It was a great natural color – subtle, but just looked polished. She was so exited I’d noticed, and told me it was the Londontown Illuminating Nail Concealer. I ordered it immediately, and I’ve really been loving it. For me, it’s the perfect way to get that fresh manicure feeling but with way less effort.
What It Is
The nail concealer applies like polish, but really makes you look like you have naturally flawless nails. It comes in four colors, though they’re all pretty similar in my opinion. I went with the original, which looks to be white in the bottle, and pink is the other bestseller of the options. When you apply, though, it looks much more natural! One coat goes on super sheer, two coats builds up to a very subtle wash on your nails.
It makes your natural nails looks brighter – the pink part a bit pinker, and the white tips look whiter. There are actually reflective brighteners into the formula to create this optical effect. It also does an amazing job at neutralizing any discoloration in your nails. Sometimes mine get a bit of a yellow undertone, and this totally eliminates that. The formula also contains a proprietary blend of ingredients to moisturize and nourish nails.
I’ve found it to have pretty good longevity, too – about a week with normal wear-and-tear on my nails. Because it’s so natural looking on, though, any chips aren’t as glaringly obvious as they are with a typical polish! It blends in nicely so you can get away with it until you have time to do a touch up.
How I Use It
I start by prepping my nails – filing and removing any old polish.
I apply two coats of the Illuminating Nail Concealer, because I like a bit more of an opaque look, but you should go with one if you like it more sheer. One of the best parts of the nail concealer is how quickly it dries – by the time I finish one layer, the first coat is already dry and ready for coat number two. It also goes on much more mess-free than a typical polish, it’s basically foolproof!
You don’t need to use a top coat, but I like to pair it with one so that it lasts a bit longer. My favorite is the Seche Vite Gel Effect (meaning it looks like gel, but doesn’t actually need to be cured under a UV lamp), but whatever you prefer will work!
All in all, it takes maybe ten minutes tops, and leaves me with the prettiest, most natural-looking nails.
