Life Lately (Interrupted), January 2022

I've been writing Life Lately posts for a few months now - sharing the day-to-day of what I've been up to; the things that don't necessarily make it to a stand alone blog post. I started writing them about a year ago now, because it felt like life was slowly starting to pick up again. But now, almost exactly a full year since my first COVID vaccine, I'm back to feeling stuck again.

Back to School Reflections

At the end of last month, I had the chance to talk to the incoming first year students of Carnegie Mellon's engineering program about the importance of diversity in STEM. It was truly wild to be on that end of orientation events - it forced me to sit with the reality that my own orientation was fourteen years ago! It just doesn't seem possible.

SMA Pride Month: Looking Back & Looking Ahead

It feels like the month has really just flown - I can't believe that I'm writing my last SMA Pride Month post for the year! Since it's the end of the month, I'm feeling kind of nostalgic, so I thought this week I'd write a little bit about looking back and looking ahead, and doing some reflecting.

SMA Pride Month: A Day in the Life

One of the questions that came up during my Elizabeth Holmes Instagram takeover was what a typical day in the life looks like for me. Keeping SMA Pride Month in mind, I thought it might be fun to share an old-school blogging "Day in the Life" post, with a little extra information about the ways that SMA affects my normal, everyday life.

SMA Q & A

sability Pride Month may be over (HOW is July already done?!), but that just means it's time for August and SMA Pride / Awareness Month. (I'm going to refer to it as SMA Pride Month from here on out, but want to acknowledge that it began as SMA Awareness Month.) Since the Q & A post for Disability Pride Month went over so well last week, I thought that I'd do a similar one about all things SMA.

When Being Disabled Feels Like a Job

I've mentioned before that July is Disability Pride Month - in fact, I have another whole post about it. But I want to be upfront about the less positive side of being disabled, too. There are days that I don't really feel like cheering about my disability pride, because I'm just too beat down and frustrated. Last Friday was one of those days.
