I maybe did a little too much retail therapy in August (and the end of July), but as a silver lining, it means I have lots of favorites from last month to share. It’s a nice mix of different kids of things too, I think! Here are my favorites from August.

Lake Pajamas

This tank silhouette with a little ruffle across the top is a new-to-me style from Lake, and I’m already planning to buy more. It fits me probably the best of any Lake styles that I’ve tried – the straps are super adjustable, so much so that they fit me even without needing to pin them together in the back, which is a rarity. And it’s a bit shorter than their typical styles, which again, is perfect for me! I’m already reaching for them more than any of my other older styles.

Handheld Frother

This was the summer of cold foam for me! I am typically a hot coffee person rather than a cold brew one, but the Macadamia Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks really had me in it’s grasp. Now that it’s been retired for the summer, I had to take matters into my own hands! I bought some macadamia syrup (I’m still experimenting to find my favorite) and got a little handheld frother so I could make my own cold foam at home. I’ve been using this recipe and it’s shockingly easy and so tasty.

Lululemon Mini Belt Bag

I am so late to the belt bag trend, I know, but I had to get this one. Lululemon designed the Olympic and Paralympic merch for Canada, and they included some really cool adaptive clothing options for the Paralympians. The adaptive clothes were a little bit out of my price range, but they did sell this mini belt bag with the Team Canada logo on it! A friend was actually in Canada and picked it up for me, but I’m pretty sure it’s available online in the US now.

Rare Beauty Pressed Powder

Even though my skin is definitely oily, I’ve never been a huge powder person. I really struggled to find one that didn’t mix weirdly with my skin and foundation – they’d all tend to get cakey. But this pressed powder from Rare Beauty is the exception! Whether I put it on right after a fresh face of makeup, or hours later to try to combat the oil that’s crept up, it still looks so nice on my skin. It helps with shine and blurs a bit, but is lightweight enough it doesn’t feel gross or heavy, even after multiple layers throughout the day. I love it so much I picked up the loose powder to try too!

BDK Velvet Tonka

I have really been into fragrances lately – trying out new ones and getting back into old favorites. I read All Fours by Miranda July last month (and loved it), and was struck by a reference to a Tonka bean hand wash while I was reading. They mentioned it a couple times, and I was sold on the description and needed to try it for myself. I found a sample of a Velvet Tonka fragrance by BDK, and immediately ordered the full size once I had tried the sample. It’s so good – sweet but like a burnt honey / caramel deep kind of sweet, with a little bit of woodiness, too. It’s incredible!

Blake Brown Leave-In Potion

I have a full review of the Blake Brown products planned after I’ve had a few more chances to use them, but I can safely say that this leave-in “potion” is a must-buy for me. It’s leave-in spray that’s a detangler, conditioner, and heat protectant. I still don’t love the design of the bottle itself, though it works okay for me since I’m not spraying it on myself. But it just works SO well – my hair is so much less tangled after I blow dry, it feels so incredibly soft, and as a bonus, it smells amazing!

The God of the Woods

I really loved reading The God of the Woods last month – both the book itself, and the whole experience of reading it. It’s one of those perfect moody and atmospheric books where I felt totally wrapped up in the world of the story. For me, a good book is as much about the general vibes as it is the plot, and I think that’s why I loved this one so much! To be clear, the plot is strong too – it’s a mystery about a girl who goes missing at summer camp, years after her brother also went missing and is presumed dead. The character building was rich, and I loved how it all came together at the end, too.
