I have had a serious case of the winter blahs lately. It keeps snowing, it’s cold, and I’m spending too much time inside my house. I’m starting to feel claustrophobic, and a little bit like I’m living my own personal Groundhog Day, where I wake up, work, blog, sleep, repeat. I’m ready for spring, and sunshine, and just something different! But as much as I’d like to, I can’t make the seasons change any faster. So I’ve been doing little things each day just to try to make it feel a little more “special.” I thought I’d share mine and I’d love to know if you have any little things you do to spice up your days, too!

Reading with an Ambiance
Since I’m spending a lot of time reading, I make it into a whole activity instead of just something to pass the time. I turn on a reading ambiance from YouTube, put my iPad in my stand, turn on my gas fireplace, and light a candle. I love to read anyway, so it’s not like it’s something I’m doing out of desperation, but it just makes it feel less repetitive.
Perfume Just for Me
Despite what my Instagram pictures might have you believe, I do not get dressed up in cute outfits every single day if I’m working from home and don’t have any meetings or photos to take. I am very pro comfy loungewear! I do change out of my pajamas on work days, but am not getting fully dressed everyday. But I’ve accumulated quite the collection of perfume samples, so I’ve taken to wearing a different one each day, even if I’m just wearing it for me. I love catching little hints of it all day long.
Sweet Treat at Night
Since I use my feeding tube overnight, I don’t have to worry (as much!) about nutrition during the day. So I’ve started ending each night with a little sweet treat! If I’m feeling extra indulgent, I’ll take some cookie dough from the freezer and bake just one or two cookies, so I can eat them when they’re still warm and gooey. I’ve also recently become obsessed with the chocolate and vanilla swirl Snack Pack puddings! It’s just a fun way to end my night and makes it feel a little more like a restaurant experience.
DIY Movie Night
I like to watch all the Oscar Best Picture nominees before the award show, and I end up watching most (if not all!) of them at home because it’s just way easier for me. But I’m also way more prone to distraction at home than I am in the theater! So I like to make a whole night of it – dim the lights, have some candy at hand like I would at the theater, and get all cozy under a blanket. And I try to stay off my phone while watching, too!
Tiny Bit of Retail Therapy
I’m not saying that I go out and buy myself something new every day, but sometimes nothing beats the joy of a little treat you ordered yourself to brighten your day. Today I placed an order for this Clinique Black Honey Lip Oil and I know I will be very excited when I am inevitably “surprised” by it when it arrives, because I’ll have forgotten that I ordered! It’s obviously something small, but it’s just enough to make me smile.
